research as art

There’s an interesting piece in The Guardian newspaper today, reporting the winners of the 2013 Research As Art competition.  They’re an ecletic bunch of images, from descriptive photographs of, for example, the shoots from a burnt eucalyptus tree, to photographs that symbolise something else, to various digitally-generated images.  Some research needs the image to reach its findings, while other reported projects use the image to exemplify or illustrate its finding.  I don’t think they’re Art, as such, but most are rather beautiful, and interesting in their diverse relations between the image and the research.
